Cloverfield

I just went to see cloverfield at the cinema, not impressed at all! After seeing the trailers for it and hearing about all the hype surrounding it I was really hoping for something special but it was a big let down. The use of the handheld camera all the way through the film did make it more realistic and it brings the audience closer to the action, but it also gets quite annoying because of the constant movement (they even have notices up saying that due to the nature of the hand-held style camerawork viewers may experience motion sickness) and the fact that I think recording everything would be the last thing on your mind if you were in that situation and that detracted from the realism that they were obviously aiming for. I read on an online article that the producing partner of JJ Abrams had said "It's an entirely original story and monster", but i disagree with this as the story follows the same pattern as alot of other films and its not like we havent seen this type of thing before, think Godzilla with a handheld camera. I think theres alot of mixed opinion surrounding this film but for me I have to say it was dissapointing, if you've seen it let me know what you think.
